Dismantle scaffolding is a critical step in the later stages of construction, and improper operation can easily lead to safety accidents such as collapse and falling. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly follow the principle of "safety first, layered dismantling, and erecting before dismantling" and operate according to standardized procedures. The following are the core points, processes, and precautions for dismantling scaffolding:
1、 Preparation work before demolition
Plan preparation and approval
A special dismantling plan should be prepared based on the type of scaffold (such as floor standing, cantilever, attached), height, surrounding environment, etc., clarifying the dismantling sequence, personnel division, safety protection measures, and approved by the supervisor and construction unit before implementation.
Safety technical briefing
Provide written and verbal instructions to the demolition personnel, clarifying the demolition steps, danger points (such as falling from heights, object strikes), and protective requirements, ensuring that the personnel are familiar with the plan and master emergency response measures.
Environmental and Material Inspection
Clean up debris on the scaffolding (such as steel pipes, fasteners, and construction waste on the scaffold boards) to prevent objects from falling during dismantling.
Check the stability of the scaffold structure. If problems such as bent uprights, loose nodes, or damaged connectors are found, they need to be reinforced before dismantling.
Designate a warning area, set up fences and warning signs (such as "No Entry" and "Under Demolition"), assign dedicated personnel to be on duty, and prohibit unrelated personnel from entering.
Tools and Protection Preparation
Prepare qualified dismantling tools (such as wrenches and pry bars), and prohibit the use of hammers to forcefully smash components.
Operators are required to wear safety helmets, safety belts, and non slip shoes. When working at heights, the safety belt should be hung high and used low (hung on a sturdy pole or crossbar).
Provide temporary storage areas for the classification, stacking, and transportation of dismantled components.
2、 Standardized process for demolition
Follow the principle of "build first, dismantle later, build later, dismantle first"
The dismantling sequence is opposite to the erection sequence, specifically:
Remove protective facilities first (such as footboards, toe boards, guardrails, safety nets);
Dismantle the horizontal and diagonal bars (non load bearing components) again;
Finally, remove the upright pole (load-bearing component).
It is prohibited to dismantle the uprights or push down the scaffolding as a whole to avoid structural instability.
Layered and segmented demolition
According to the principle of "top-down and layered dismantling", after the dismantling of the same layer's components, the next layer can be dismantled. It is prohibited to work on both upper and lower layers simultaneously (to prevent objects from falling and injuring people).
When dismantling in sections, the height of each section should not exceed 2 steps (about 1.8-2 meters), and temporary supports (such as horizontal bars and diagonal bars) should be retained at the section to ensure the stability of the parts that have not been dismantled.
Dismantling and Transfer of Components
The dismantled steel pipes, fasteners, scaffold boards and other components need to be manually transferred to the ground or slowly lowered with ropes. Throwing is prohibited (throwing can easily cause damage to components and casualties).
When dismantling the scaffold board, it is necessary to first loosen the fixing points at both ends, and two people should cooperate in handling to avoid a single scaffold board falling.
Before dismantling the pole, it is necessary to check whether the bottom connection is firm. During dismantling, two people should work together to prevent the pole from tipping over.
3、 Special case handling
Rain and snow, strong wind weather: In case of rainstorm, heavy snow, dense fog or wind force ≥ 6, the demolition operation is prohibited. After the rain, it is necessary to check whether the scaffold foundation is settled and whether the components are slipping. The work can be resumed only after the safety is confirmed.
Suspended/attached scaffolding: Before dismantling, the connection with the building structure (such as embedded parts and tie rods) must be removed first, and the load must be released before dismantling in sections. It is strictly prohibited to dismantle the suspended beams or attached devices first.
Damaged component handling: If any deformed or broken components are found during the dismantling process, they should be separately stacked and marked, and must not be reused to avoid flowing into subsequent projects.
4、 Post demolition organization and inspection
Component classification and stacking: The dismantled steel pipes, fasteners, scaffold boards, etc. should be sorted and cleaned to remove surface debris and rust. Fasteners should be centrally cleaned and lubricated before storage. Steel components can be coated with anti rust paint to extend their service life.
Site cleaning: After the demolition is completed, clean up the scattered components and garbage on site, level the site, and ensure that there are no safety hazards.
Safety acceptance: The construction unit and the supervision unit shall jointly inspect the dismantled area, confirm that there are no remaining components or structural damage, and then close the warning zone.
